Our Mission is to provide the public with a safe and positive facility to grow stronger and learn to succeed in all walks of life through the practice of traditional Korean martial arts.

Our classes are taught in a group environment, but we pride ourselves on providing our students with individual attention from highly qualified instructors. This unique quality makes us the premiere school for martial arts training in the South Austin, Oak Hill and Dripping Springs area.

Our spacious facility consists of a 3,500 square foot training area, male and female changing rooms equipped with showers, and a large front office and waiting area.

At Kuk Sool Won™ of South Austin, you and your family will have the opportunity to learn a unique system of self defense, increase your level of physical fitness, and enjoy an activity that promotes longevity, discipline and personal development.

Kuk Sool is comprised of kicking, punching, throwing, joint locking, pressure points, falling, choking, weapons, physical fitness, mental control, meditation, breathing, acupressure and acupuncture. These are some, but not all, of the technique categories contained within Kuk Sool Won™.

Today’s modern Kuk Sool is not a style or type of martial art, like Tae Kwon Do, Kung-Fu, or Karate, but a systematic study of Korea’s Martial Art techniques that date from ancient to present time. In this way, you are being exposed to both ancient history, and an exciting means to physical fitness, longevity, and personal development.

Our Martial Art

The roots of Kuk Sool date back to the very beginning of Korea with "Sado Mu Sool" which means family or tribal martial art. The next martial art to develop was "Bulkyo Mu Sool", or "Buddhist martial art". Shortly afterwards came "Koong Joong Mu Sool" which translates to 'Royal Court Martial Art'. These are the three segments of ancient Korean martial arts from which the techniques of Kuk Sool evolved.

Although its origin may be traced back to antiquity, the present Kuk Sool system was formally devised only recently. Grand master In Hyuk Suh spent more than fifty years in single minded practice and research in order to learn, compile, master and organize the more than 3,600 techniques that comprise Kuk Sool. He founded the Kuk Sool Won in 1961 and took it to the United States in 1974.

Getting started is easy!

We always have a very reasonable introductory program available. These programs can vary in length, price and content, and are an opportunity for you to try our classes and to decide if you want to commit to being a member of our martial arts family. The first lesson of our introductory course is always a private lesson with an instructor, who will guide you through the basics and help you progress at your own pace. Please don't hesitate to stop by or call (512-288-5425) for more information.

Kuk Sool Won™ of South Austin has been proudly serving the South Austin, Oak Hill and Dripping Springs area for 15 years. Our school has been recognized for outstanding acheivement in the community by St. Jude's Children's Hospital, the Boy Scouts of America, and the Mayor of the City of Austin. Recently, we were awarded the distinct honor of being the first school in 15 years to be the top point winning school 3 years in a row at the annual Kuk Sool Won™ World Championships.
